The Sullen Place

Outside the city is a paradise
The sunsets are amazing
Lakes and falls are enchanting
Hills and mountains are green
White ocean beaches are welcoming
Shallow or deep diving is serene
The corals under the waters vibrant

The city of Manila is crowded
Left no room for plants or trees
The streets were never empty
Loud stereos are echoing from a distant
Parents screaming and the children are noisy
Too much noise the city never sleeps
Hardly notice the birds chirp

Like a person with schizophrenia
Philippines has too many faces
Elegance and richness for some
Starvation and homelessness for few

Iwo, The Home of Odıdere

Kilometres away from Ibadan, Miles away from Osogbo,
Iwo, the city of odidere,
Odidere, the bird that always return home.
A pure icon of patriotism.

What a beauty you are, my beautiful city,
With your forest that greens all the year round
A symbol of your agricultural potentials
A city that still enjoy farming.

What a view you are
With your hills and mountains,
That stand ever and ever in their places
A sign of your resilience.

An ancient city you are,
Dated centuries ago,
And war has never touched you,
An emblem of your sacredness.

Quiz Poem #2: World City

This marble capital to guess is, from two brothers, born.
Queen Victoria eyes Caesar's,
Awfully Painful corns.
A mnemonic of seven mounds sieze hers.

Notes:
Okay, did you get the city's name? There are five poems that form a 'quiz poem: world city' in which you have to guess the capital city from anywhere in the world! Easy huh? Once you've got the city's name (or even if you have all five) just email me. It's for fun!

Do email answers rather than put them here as a comment, as that'll spoil it for others. So far the response has been good. Let me know if you like the idea - even if you haven't got the answer or don't want to take part.

Color Me Red

Red is deep anger that never comes out
Red is believing, and then having doubt.
Red reeks of revenge, of suffering and hate.
Red is being thirsty and having to wait.

Red, in a painting, makes one hot and confused,
It’s the anger of crying when you feel you’ve been used.
Red is that voice, deep in your head,
It could keep you back, but pushes ahead.

It mocks you silently with a voice full of hate,
“You can’t do it, you are weak, and it is your fate.”
Red feels like fire, singeing your heart,
It’s wanting to be together, but having to part.

Red is running through desert and sun,
It’s needing a friend, but having none.
Red is the heart that’s been broken in two,
It’s hearing those lies, and wanting what’s true.

The privilege

If you can thrill, its your own will,
I can't say whether it pleases me.
Yes, I'm privileged to this city up till,
but, this way ahead lil decreases me.

I'm restless for those things hidden,
that's discovered all aloof.
Wherever, which way, what city I'm in,
something happens a goof.
I feel sometimes brain, barren I till,
and being in the world this life teases me...
Yes, I'm privileged to this city up till,
but, this way ahead lil decreases me.

Bunch of years my life has lived,
risen I have from unknown streets.
Among the crowd why I'm timid,
when tides are hounding all fleets.
I wait for such a living skill,
that courage of death ceases me,

Quiz Poem #3: World City

The 'triumphant one' in a sea of sand,
founded by caliphs of old, and
once the prize of the 'emperor' from France.
Hanging Church and the Virgin's tree, to enhance?

City Sluts

City sluts
gyrate eastward on 27th St.
with their skirts high on their thigh.
They blow you a kiss
and lick their ruby lips
with their tongues.
And if you look like you’re game,
they’ll come close to find out
what you like to do.
City sluts
are waitin’ for you
westbound 42nd St..
They bleach their hair blonde
and wear black leather
with spiked heels.
And they talk dirty to you
cause they think you like it like that.
City sluts
are mighty confused
while wondering either direction on 53rd St..

Palm-Kernel-Chain Game

Chain Point One: The big cat may be away
But may appear any day

The Long-whiskered rats
Are pretending
NOW: a bait of palm kernels
Is strategically placed
The big cat
Pretends hiding
The rats
Start telegramming…
The cat is waiting
The rats are
Picking…!
The cat is inputting…

Chain Point Two: Palm kernel is the main gastronomy
And has national distribution-tag

NOW:

A Walk Around the Block

My friends and I went to the city
And we took a little walk
After having a delicious lunch
We walked around the block

You see, we were in Oklahoma City
A place that just never lets you down
So we took our time and noticed
Decorations adorning the town

We love the many colorful statues
Like Buffalo with so much charm
They look rather mean of course
But they really would do us no harm

The Colcard of course we visited
And the spectacular Sheridan
If you take the time and look around
You can always have terrific fun

A City Once Spoken Of

Every day shines with the lights of heaven
Every question imagined - unanswered.
Shaded under the tree of life
No more bloody blades, no more war
No more strife

Our spirits glowing on the golden shores
Warming and melting the crystal snow
Joyous and free the city forever keeps
Nature natural with secrets of the deep

A musical melody heavenly notes float
To this shade tree, I pause to whisper
Of a city once spoken of, a righteous city
Full of grace, hope, peace and love.

People never will know twilight, sin, pain, death
Again. Thoughts comfort my mind with tender flight.
My body does cherish these Earthly times, but I
Must leave their rhymes behind, as the bird of my soul
