Family

Inseperable,
Since what seemed like birth,
They had the tightest bond,
On the face of the earth,
Time twisted and turned
Their relationship,
Water became thicker than blood,
Family separated
No longer speaking
Now teaching
The next generation-
Brothers, sisters, and cousins
To embrace the familial separation.
Now older and wiser
We strive to change the patterns
We ourselves have made
Change the paths we've made
Family-blood in, blood out,
From the cradle to the grave.

Natural Occurances

Tears fall like morning dew,
Not once but twice I am losing you,
You are like the air I breathe.
And I crave each breath more and more.
To touch you was to lay in the tall grass,
On a warm summer day,
I laid there drinking in all of your beauty.
Now I'm tasting the bitterness of my tears,
Falling like morning dew,
My air supply is no more,
And I lay shameless in the dead of the winter,
Waiting for the tall grass to come again.
It's the same old thing
Happening to us once again.

Out Of The Ashes

Tears in my eyes
But there's no time for rain.
My heart is like a window:
Nothing but pain.
Shattered and broken,
Just leave me with a token
Of what was
But never will be,
No matter how hard we've been hoping.
Life for me ain't no crystal stair,
Langston Hughes never lied,
But I no longer care.
I don't need the world's pity,
Life is not supposed to be fair.
Problem is,
I'm still torn,
It's all up in flames.
Dead.
So I mourn.
Yet out of the ashes of the dead,

The Light In The Darkness

Shades of darkness obstruct my view,
What once seemed old is once again new.
I thought I was in the light for a while
There is someone with me in the darkness
In his word I can almost hear him smile
I am trapped in a Hell that I created myself
It's too late to escape
Or blame anyone else
Yet somewhere I see light peeking down at me
But the darkness is so vast
Surrounding me
Escape seems like a dream long past
My decisions of old may be my last.
The tiny ray of light seems so strong
It makes me wonder
Do I have the strength to move on?

Ex - Posed

You have a way of finding all my flaws,
You make sure you expose them all,
Never once did I claim to be perfect,
So how do you figure that I deserve this?
I was a fool
For ever thinking we could work things out.
Now I realize
What you're all about.
You love yourself more than anyone in the world,
I was your wife,
Not just some random girl,
I can't let you hurt me,
No-never again,
I thought we were in love,
But now this lie must end.
You used me,
Abused me,
Hurt me,
Desert me.
How could I be so blind,

Freedom

Sorrow in my soul,
Deep like rivers and oceans,
My mind is locked inside itself,
And I've lost the key,
I've been searching
But it seems I've lost ME.
Life is the same old story for us all,
Just the participants
Are different,
My soul longs for freedom
Yet finds none in this lonely existence.
It seems I've overlooked reality,
And wonder how I missed it.
I've heard so many lies,
That I can't trust people.
I've seen too much tragedy,
And I have come to the conclusion that
All sins are equal.
Pain is who I have become
Never ceasing to be.

Lost and Found

For so long my heart was trapped in darkness,
My soul was filled with pain,
No one will ever know my sorrow,
It just felt like there would be no tomorrow.
Then one day you were lurking,
In the deep shadows of my mind,
I asked myself why I felt so lost,
Was it You I was meant to find?
I watch You from a distance,
Yet Your presence was is clear,
To me You are a mystery,
You are so far away,
Yet so very near.
Now You are always with me,
Of that fact I'm sure,
I am safe in Your presence,
Forever more.
My God You found me,
When I had no hope of being found,
My heart and soul rejoice now,

When I Was Alone

The wind whispers sweet nothings in my ear,
The rain pours down on my head slowly,
Even God sheds an occasional tear.
The body becomes weak,
The mind stays strong,
Lord I am tired,
I can't stand alone for too long,
And then I realize that I am not alone,
God's always been with me,
But I'm just too stubborn to go home,
Just too stubborn to go home.
Life is like a river,
Flowing into death's eternal sea,
Yet I am sure that even though it may be time,
There's still life left for me,
There's still life left for me.
I have been many things in this life,
And I regret not one,
God alone can judge me,
When my time has come.

Sinful

Are you an illusion,
Could I have conjured you in my dreams?
You have caused so much confusion
Now nothing is as it seems.
I don't even really know you
Yet I feel I know you intimately
There is so much of me I want to show you
If only you agree.
I'm mesmerized by your smile
Entranced by your eyes
I lose my breath when I'm near you
When you touch me my soul cries.
If only you didn't belong to someone else
Then I would keep you all to myself
You are a sorcerer
You have me under your spell
Every moment I'm away from you
Feels like an eternity in hell
How can I have you
When you are with someone else

His

He cared for me like no one else,
He knew me better
Than I ever knew myself.
Time turned and twisted what once was
Into what can never again be
And even though I must move forward
There is still the vivid memory...
It was his arms that held me when I was afraid,
It was his clout that cleaned up mistakes that I'd made,
His was the heart that I held in my hands,
It was his strength
That made me see him as more than just a man.
His were the thoughts,
That I respected more than my own,
I lay at night in my bed thinking-
Cold and alone.
His were the eyes that saw me
Unlike I see myself
His was the love
He gave to someone else.
